I just came home from watching this new movie. It just came out today in Indonesia (6/4), and knowing this as I've been waiting, I grab my wallet and my friend's arm and went to see it. I love all movie related to apocalyptic situation. When there is one, I definitely have to watch it. Sometimes it's good but other times it's awesome! Just like this one.

Aku baru saja pulang dari menonton film baru. Film ini baru saja tayang di bioskop Indonesia hari ini (6/4). Karena memang sudah menunggu film ini, aku langsung cuss beli tiket nonton hari itu juga. Aku suka banget sama film film yang berlatar belakang apocalypse. Tiap ada film kayak gitu, aku harus nonton. Kadang bagus film film nya, kadang juga bagus buanget! Kayak film ini misalnya.

10 Cloverfield Lane, with the setting of a bunker where Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Windstead) found herself in. She was told that she was saved from a car accident by this man who locked her inside a room, his name was Howard (John Goodman). Well, he did let her out of the room after she calmed down. In addition of not having any kind of memory of what had happened after the car crash, she was told that some kind of chemical attack is happening outside and that everyone else are dead.

10 Cloverfield Lane, dengan setting bunker dimana Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Windstead) menemukan dirinya berada. Dia diberitahu bahwa dia diselamatkan dari sebuah kecelakaan mobil oleh seorang pria yang mengurungnya dalam sebuah ruangan, nama pria itu adalah Howard  (John Goodman). Ya, dia membiarkan Michelle keluar dari ruangan itu sih pas Michelle udah tenang. Dalam kondisi nggak ingat apa apa tentang kecelakaan mobilnya, Michelle diberitahu bahwa ada semacam serangan kimia di dunia luar, dan bahwa semua orang diluar bunker itu udah mati.

Emmett (John Gallagher Jr.), the other person who was also in the bunker also said that. He was hired to build the bunker, and when he saw what he saw, he came running pleading Howard for shelter. Even if he said so, Michelle of course was still in doubt, is that really what's happening outside? Are they telling the truth? Maybe they just don't know what they saw, maybe it's all in their head. All she know is that she just can't stay still inside the bunker with two total strangers without knowing what's really happening outside.

Emmett (John Gallagher Jr.), orang lain yang juga tinggal di dalam bunker itu juga bilang gitu. Emmett ini adalah orang yang dipekerjakan Howard untuk membangun bunker ini dulu, dia lari mohon mohon Howard biar boleh ikut tinggal di dalam bunker waktu liat kejadian diluar. Walaupun Emmett berkata begitu, Michelle tentu saja masih ragu. Apa bener itu yang terjadi diluar sana? Apa mereka mengatakan yang sebenarnya? Mungkin mereka hanya salah menafsirkan apa yang mereka lihat, mungkin itu semua cuma di kepala mereka. Yang Michelle tau hanyalah bahwa dia nggak bisa tinggal diam di dalam bunker itu dengan dua orang asing tanpa mengetahui apa yang sebenarnya terjadi di luar sana.

As we being caught up in internal fight of guessing who's right and what should be done. Something is coming. That is the tagline of the movie.

Saat kita ribut dengan pikiran kita sendiri tentang siapa yang benar dan apa yang seharusnya dilakukan. Something is coming. Itu tagline film ini.

What's interesting about 10 Cloverfield Lane was that it's playing with our mind. One time you really don't trust Howard with all of his nonsense belief, yet other time you really believe that Howard is just a misunderstood weirdo. It's like being in a boat, tossed around, you just can't decide whether to root for Michelle to just get the hell out of there or wanting her to stay in case everything they said was the truth.

Yang menarik dari film 10 Cloverfield Lane adalah bahwa film ini bermain dengan pikiran kita. Satu waktu kalian nggak bisa percaya Howard dengan semua hal nggak masuk akal yang dia percayai. Tapi di waktu lain kalian bakal bener bener percaya bahwa Howard itu sebenarnya hanya orang aneh yang kita salah pahami. Ini kayak berada di sebuah perahu, terombang ambing, kalian nggak bisa memutuskan apakah kalian akan mendukung Michelle untuk keluar dari tempat itu secepat mungkin, atau menginginkan Michelle untuk tetap tinggal jika seandainya memang itu yang terjadi diluar.

Because there was only one place setting, the story gets really intense. There was no place to run or hide. The exploration was good as the movie paced the story building just right, not too fast or too slow. The actors are really playing with our emotion. Michelle was a brave woman who won't give up with the situation. It's good that Michelle is someone like that, but on the other hand you fear of her safety. It's just get on your nerve of the things she does, sometimes you wish she could just calm down and think. While Howard is a big creepy man, with uncontrolled emotion, you keep wondering if he was just being misunderstood. After all he's really nice to let both Michelle and Emmett to stay with him on his bunker, forgiving the things they done behind his back.

Karena hanya ada satu setting tempat, cerita nya menjadi benar benar menegangkan, nggak ada tempat untuk lari atau sembunyi. Eksplorasinya bagus, membangun cerita dengan kecepatan yang pas. Aktor aktornya benar benar memainkan perasaan kita. Michelle adalah seorang wanita yang pemberani, yang nggak mau menyerah dengan keadaan. Memang bagus Michelle adalah seseorang yang seperti itu, tapi di sisi lain kita di khawatirkan dengan keselamatannya. Dia benar benar bikin kesal atas apa yang dia lakukan, kadang kita pengen dia untuk tenang dan berfikir. Sementara Howard, adalah laki laki besar yang menyeramkan dengan emosi yang nggak bisa di kontrol. Kalian bakal terus terusan bertanya tanya apakah kalian salah tentang dia. Karena bagaimanapun juga, Howard cukup baik untuk membiarkan Michelle dan Emmett untuk tinggal dengannya dalam bunkernya, memaafkan hal hal yang terus mereka lakukan dibelakangnya.

You will find yourself surprised now and then with the loud, unpredictable turn of event, it snapped your mind out of your thought. And you won't believe what's waiting outside, a plot twist is waiting around the corner. I'm really hoping for a sequel. I want to follow Michelle, I want to know what happened next. 10 Cloverfield Lane will leave your heart racing and your mouth hanging open.

Kalian bakal menemukan diri kalian sesekali terkejut dengan suara keras kejadian yang nggak diperkirakan, menarik kalian dari pikiran kalian, kembali ke dalam film. Dan kalian nggak bakal percaya apa yang ada di luar, plot twist menunggu kalian. Aku benar benar berharap bakal ada sekuel untuk film ini. Aku pinging mengikuti Michelle, aku ingin tahu apa yang terjadi selanjutnya. 10 Cloverfield Lane akan bikin jantung kalian berdebar dan mulut kalian menganga lebar.

You definitely have to watch this movie.

Salah satu perusahaan yang belakangan ini menarik banyak perhatian di kalangan masyarakat di Indonesia adalah Go-Jek. Go-Jek mengangkat level jasa transportasi dengan sebuah layanan booking ojek melalui aplikasi GoJek yang bisa didownload di Smartphone android & iPhone. 

One of the company which lately stealing the spotlight in the middle of Indonesian people is Go-Jek. Go-Jek is taking the transportation service to another level with a service of OJEK booking through the help of GoJek application which can be downloaded for smartphone android and iPhone.

Nah, Go-Jek kan mengadakan sebuah kompetisi film bernama Go-Video yang bertemakan Indonesia Pilih Go-Jek berdurasi antara 2-10 menit. Dengan deadline pada tanggal 31 Maret 2016 lalu, Mas Mas di Click ITS mengajak untuk ikut berpartisipasi dalam acara ini juga. Waktu itu udah tanggal 4 Maret, bisa dibilang super ngebut mengerjakan projek ini. Dalam projek ini aku berperan sebagai penulis naskah film, script sudah kelar dalam waktu 24 jam, pra produksi untuk breakdown naskah serta story board selesai dalam waktu tiga hari. Hari berikutnya pencarian talent serta setting pengambilan gambar juga selesai. Sedangkan shooting nya selesai dalam 2 minggu, sisa nya untuk editing.

So, Gojek is holding a movie competition called GoVideo with the theme of Indonesia choosing Gojek. The movie's duration should be between 2 to 10 minutes. With the deadline falls on this March 31st 2016. A senior in Click ITS come up to me and ask me to join him in participating. It was already the 4th of March. We were in rush as we do the project. In this project I'm taking the role as the script writer. The script was done in 24 hours time, pra production for the script breakdown and the story board was done in 3 days time. The next day was for talent scouting and looking for the shooting location. While the shooting itself was done in two weeks time, the rest is for editing.

Meski pembuatan film ini bisa dibilang bener bener membabi buta, ngebut sana sini, Herannya hasilnya yang paling memuaskan dibanding film lain yang pernah aku buat dari segi keseluruhan. Memang banyak cerita yang lebih bagus dari ini dari yang aku tulis, tapi realisasinya ini yang paling bagus. Proses pembuatannya bukan tanpa kendala lho, hanya saja semua bisa teratasi di akhir. Submitnya bahkan juga tepat pada deadline.

Even though the making of this movie is really in a rush. What's weird was that this movie comes out overall better than any other movie I ever made. Indeed there are better stories I've wrote, but the realization of the story in the movie, this is the best one yet. This doesn't mean that the making of the movie had no obstacle, there actually are, but at the end it was handled well. The submit was really on the deadline.

Berbeda dengan tipikal cerita yang aku buat yang biasanya berbau horor atau misteri dengan plot twist yang kemana mana, cerita kali ini berunsurkan komedi. Ada sih di sela selain horor, nggak tahan buat nggak masukin unsur itu, hahahah. Film ini menceritakan tentang pertemanan dua cewek, Chika dan Nanda. Itu nama mereka diambil dari nama dua sahabatku, rada gak kreatif ya,emang kalau aku namain karakter ngambil nama orang yang aku tau di dunia nyata.

Different with the typical story I usually made which is all about the horror and mystery with super plot twists, this time I went with comedy. Well, this one actually infused with little horror, I can't help it, hahahah. This movie tells about the friendship of two girls, Chika and Nanda. Theit name are my best friend name, not that creative, eh? Well, I always do that when naming characters, taking the name of a real person whom I know.

Eh, balik lagi, jadi pertemanan mereka ini udah jalan dari kecil, dan satu hal yang buat pertemanan mereka unik adalah kompetisi yang mereka ciptakan diantara mereka. Kompetisi kompetisi ini bukan menjadikan mereka jauh, tapi justru merupakan dasar dari pertemanan mereka, yang mengikat mereka berdua. Istilahnya Rival kalo dalam bahasa inggris, dan itu judul dari film ini. Lagian kan emang gak seru gitu kalo punya pertemanan tanpa adanya kompetisi yang sehat. Ibaratnya kayak makan mi instan tapi lupa masukin bumbu, hambar gitu.

Eh, let's go back to the topic, so the friendship of their has existed since they were little, and the thing which makes their friendship unique is the competitions they created among themselves. These competitions don't tear them apart, but instead is the base of their friendship, what ties them to each other. The english term for it is Rival, and that is the title of this movie. And moreover, it's not fun to have a friendship without any competition. It's like you're making an instant ramen but forgetting to put in the seasoning., it's flavorless.

Walaupun masih dalam tahap belajar menjadi film maker, sangat mudah untuk bisa melihat bahwa salah satu permasalahan besar bagi para sineas Indonesia adalah kurangnya apresiasi masyarakat terhadap karya-karya film lokal. Film lokal apalagi film indie, sering kali masih dipandang sebelah mata oleh masyarakat. Karena itu keberadaan film festival sangat berpengaruh dalam perkembangan film di Indonesia. Dari situlah para jenius pembuat film dapat di temukan, begitu juga semangat untuk berkarya. It always feels good to be appreciated no matter how small.

Although still in the stage of learning to be a filmmaker, it is easy to see that one of the major problems for Indonesian filmmakers is the lack of public appreciation of the works of local films. Local moviess especially indie movies, often still underestimated by the public. Therefore the existence of the film festival is very influential in the movie development in Indonesia. That's where the genius of filmmakers can be discovered, as well as a passion for making movies. It always feels good to be appreciated no matter how small.

Sejak bergabung dengan UKM (Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa) Cinematography CLICK ITS, salah satu festival yang sering disebut sebut dan sangat di nanti adalah Ganffest. Dan akhirnya setelah penantian yang lama, Ganffest hadir lagi di tahun 2016, tepatnya sejak Jum'at, 19 Februari 2016 sampai Minggu, 21 Februari 2016.

Since joining UKM (Student Activity Unit) Cinematography CLICK ITS, one of the festival is often talked about and is very awaited is Ganffest. And finally after a long wait, Ganffest was held again in 2016, since Friday, February 19, 2016 until Sunday, February 21, 2016.

Ganesha Film Festival (Ganffest) adalah festival film pendek berskala nasional yang diadakan oleh Liga Film Mahasiswa ITB (Institut Teknologi Bandung). Ganffest diselenggarakan hanya diadakan setiap dua tahun sekali, sejak 2008. Tentu saja pecinta film nggak akan melewatkan acara ini begitu saja. Walaupun masa kuliah sudah di mulai tetap di beli lah tiket kereta menuju Bandung.

Ganesha Film Festival (Ganffest) is a nationwide short film festival organized by the League of Student Film ITB (Institut Teknologi Bandung). Ganffest is only being held every two years, since 2008. Of course, film lovers would not want to miss it. Although the school has already begun, train ticket to Bandung is still being bought.

Dan pada tahun 2016 ini Ganffest kembali hadir untuk kelima kalinya dengan mengusung tema Autentisitas dan tagline nya, “Diri Tak Perlu Dicari”. Tema ini diangkat untuk menunjukkan bahwa sering kali manusia terlalu banyak melihat ke luar untuk mencari hal yang diinginkan oleh dirinya, padahal hal yang dicari itu terdapat dalam dirinya sendiri. And in 2016, Ganffest is back for the fifth time with a theme of Authenticity and its tagline, "No Need To Look For Yourself". This theme was to show that humans are too often looking in the outside in order to look for something desired by them, whereas the thing they are looking for is inside themselves. (source)

Jadi ceritanya kita ber-14 orang. Acaranya mulai sejak jum'at jadi seharusnya pada berangkat hari kamis sore secara perjalanan dari surabaya ke bandung naik kereta butuh 12 jam, tapi karena beberapa dari kami masih ada kuliah hari jum'at nya jadilah menjadi dua kubu. Aku berangkat hari jum'at sih dan baru menginjakkan kaki di Bandung hari Sabtu pagi, jadi gak seberapa tau hari jum'at itu ada apaan disana.

So there were 14 of us. The event started on Friday so we should be leaving Thursday afternoon as the trip from Surabaya to Bandung train ride took 12 hours, but because some of us still have a class on Friday,we are separated into two groups. Anyway, I left on Friday and just set foot in Bandung on Saturday morning, so I do not know what happened on Friday.

Pas banget kereta yang kita tumpangi itu kereta lagi promo dalam rangka hari raya imlek, jadi harganya jauh lebih murah. Kalau nggak kebetulan ada promo itu, entah ada yang jadi berangkat ke Ganffest atau gak, hahaha, anak kuliahan duit terbatas.

We were lucky as the train we ride was having promotion in celebrating the Chinese new year, so the price is way cheaper. If it wasn't for the discount, no one might be going to Ganffest, lol, we're college students with very limited money after all.

Pemutaran Film

Pemutaran film diadakan all day, selama tiga hari di bagi menjadi 14 sesi, dan tiketnya seharga idr 10.000 tiap sesinya. Berikut ini daftar film tiap sesi dari Official Websitenya Ganffest 

The screenings are held all day, for three days were divided into 14 sessions, and tickets is priced at idr 10,000 per session. Here is the list of movies in each section from the Official Websitenya Ganffest 

Film film nya? Luar biasa. Total ada berapa film tuh yang ditampilkan, 60 Film Official Selection yang terbagi menjadi 16 Film Program Kompetisi yang telah diseleksi dari 342 film yang masuk dan 44 Film program Non Kompetisi. Sampe mabok nontonnya. Keren keren tapi sumpah.

The movies? Extraordinary. In total there are 60 Film Official Selection which is divided into 16 Film Competition Program which have been selected from 342 films which were submitted and 44 Non-Competition Films program. Watching 'till drunks. But I swear they were really cool.

Ganffest 2016 selain menghadirkan pemutaran film pendek, juga terdapat diskusi antara sineas dan penonton, serta pengumuman pemenang dan pemberian penghargaan berupa Gajah Emas (untuk pemenang film terbaik) dan Gading yang Tak Retak (untuk pemenang film dengan teknik terbaik).

Ganffest 2016 in addition to presenting the short film, there are also discussions between filmmaker and audience, as well as the announcement of the winner and award the form Gajah Emas (for the winner of the best film) and Gading yang Tak Retak (for the winner of the film with the best technique).

Setelah melalui proses penjurian oleh oleh juri yaitu, Ifa Isfansyah (Sutradara film Sang Penari, Pendekar Tongkat Emas), Mikael (Kritikus Film) dan Sadi (Sutradara film pendek, Postcard from the Z). Malam penghargaan untuk masing-masing kategori diadakan pada hari terakhir dari rangkaian Ganffest 2016 ini tepatnya tanggal 21 Februari lalu di kampus ITB, Bandung. Film Rock ‘N Roll karya Wisnu Surya Pratama dinobatkan sebagai peraih penghargaan Gading yang Tak Retak, sementara penghargaan Gajah Emas diraih oleh Film Neng Kene Aku Ngenteni Koe karya Jeihan Angga.

After going through the judging process by the juries, Ifa Isfansyah (Director of the film Sang Penari, Pendekar Tongkat Emas), Mikael (Movie critic) and Sadi (director of short films, Postcard from the Z). Night awards for each category were held on the last day of the Ganffest 2016 on 21 February at ITB, Bandung. Movies Rock 'n' roll by Vishnu Surya Pratama has been named as the award-winning Gading yang Tak Retak, while the award Gajah Emas was won by Film Neng Kene Aku Ngenteni Koe by  Jeihan Anga.

Well, bagaimana dengan aku? Niatnya sih pingin nge submit film juga, ada ide yang pas banget buat itu, tapi stuck di tengah jalan, jadi ya... Mungkin lain waktu.

Well, what about me? The intention was to submit a movie as well, there was an idea that fits, but I was stuck in the middle of the way, so yes ... Maybe another time.

Oh ya, karena kami datang sebagai komunitas, jadi disana disediakan penginapan dan LO yang nemenin kemana mana. Enak kan? Ada juga malam komunitas, ini wajib ada di setiap festival film. Disana semua komunitas yang hadir berkumpul dan berdiskusi tentang suatu topik, salah satunya adalah tentang teknis dalam mengadakan film festival. Lumayan banget nambah pengetahuan.

Oh right, because we came as a community, lodging were provided for us and there is someone who was assigned to company us everywhere. Great, right? There was also a community night, which is mandatory in any film festival. There, all communities come together and discuss a topic, one of them is about the technicalities in organizing a film festival. It was really nice to broaden our knowledge.

Sempet juga jalan jalan keliling ITB, duh, sampai nyasar nyasar segala saking gedenya. Nyobain makanan khas sana juga namanya seblak, doyan banget. Terus tentu saja terakhir nggak lupa bawa pulang merchandise ganffest. Beli tas sama kaos doang sih, ada juga katalog tapi punya Click.

We also got to walk around ITB, duh, we were even got lost as it was really big. We also got to taste authentic food there called seblak, I was really hooked. And then of course do not forget to take home Ganffest's merchandise. I only bought a bag and t-shirt, there is also a catalog but it belongs to Click.

SUCH A CUTIE! And there is also little Charlie.

This is a review of Nicholas Cage horror movie called "Pay The Ghost". You read it right, Nicholas Cage is starring in a horror movie!

Ticket bought on impulse, midnight movie!

Okay, so I kind of like to watch movie trailers in my spare time, one trailer leads to another. And there was this horror movie with Nicholas Cage, and I have decided to watch it no matter what. So when the movie finally came out in the movie, I jumped and bought the tickets. It was Saturday, and it shows at midnight since it was the movie premiere. Oh my, I don't know what I was thinking. Before I watched a movie I always read reviews in site like IMDB and rotten tomatoes. I can tell you the rating and the review is not as good as I thought it would be, but well, I bought the ticket anyway.

The story revolves around Mike Cole (Nicholas Cage) who is a professor, big passion in teaching and research. Mike has a lovely wife, Kristen (Sarah Wayne Callies, The Walking Dead) and a son named Charlie (Jack Fulton). It was a pretty good life, only Mike seems to always lost track of time in his passion and sometimes make his family disappointed.

The story begin on several days before Halloween. Charlie kept seeing things. There were creepy vultures, like everywhere, it's weird Kristen or Mike did not notice. On Halloween, after Mike was once again could not live up to his promise, he tried to make up for it by taking little Charlie to a carnival. The carnival was great, scary but fun. But there is this person in old robe just watching from afar, in between people dressing up as scary things. Everything was fine, everyone was happy, Mike's life couldn't get any better as he is finally getting the position he was meant for at the university.

But then, Boom! Charlie is gone. Poof, disappear into thin air after asking "Dad, can we pay the ghost?" while staring at blank space. Mike was holding his hand waiting for the ice cream. It just seems impossible to not feeling Charlie letting go of the hand. But then again, it is something supernatural, so it is possible.

Okay, so not to spoil too much. The story then jumped a year later, Mike is still looking for Charlie while Kristen is trying to move on and is still blaming Mike for it. Mike and Kristen start seeing Charlie several days before Halloween. After following the appearance of the Charlie to an old building where a clue was found which was Pay The Ghost scrabble on the wall. Truths uncovers as Mike followed the clue Charlie left for him.

That was pretty much the plot I could share without having to spoil the story for you guys if you decided to put this movie to your to-watch list. 

My thought about this movie is that, not all movie with a legendary actor is good. But a great actor could make a not so good movie to a pretty decent movie to watch. This movie is pretty scary, I give you that, visuals of the ghost, children, children in horror movie has always been such a scary thing, in this movie? Scary kids are too much. And the scare jump when the ghost is filling the whole screen. Try not to jump or squeals because of that. The plot was pretty much guessable, the journey to it as well. But it does not make my wish to see the ending disappear. The emotion brought to you felt pretty real. Charlie is so lovable and I really want to see him go back into his family. Poor Charlie.

My suggestion?

If you'd like something to haunt you for some nights, watch it. 

If you are Nicholas Cage fans? Definitely watch it, you can't call yourself a fan if you miss one movie of him.

If you love kids? Don't watch it, it will make you curse and cry.
If you scared of kids? Definitely don't watch it either.
If you hate kids? Watch it.

Well, definitely watch it after you're  watching the trailer. It's going to make you curious and kept thinking about Nicholas Cage, er, I mean the movie. Here hereeeeee...
